An Island of Tranquility in a Sea of Madness

Israel. Words cannot explain how much I loved this place. So... I'll just let the pictures speak for its beauty.

But I can definitely speak to what a cultural experience it was. growing up in america we learn about the holocaust, and all the horrendous acts that came with it. However, we also learn that this atrocity sparked the rebirth of the nation of Israel. There was just one problem with this: when the Jews scattered abroad a new people inhabited the land. In fact many people groups live there. The diversity is astounding. In Jerusalem Jews and Arabs tolerate each other in there work places. The living spaces is a completely different story, there is the Jew quarter and the Arab quarter. There is no doubt some animosity between the two people groups but considering the religious hate for each other they remain surprisingly tranquil.  As we have seen, in recent events, the some cannot be said for the surrounding countries. Standing on top of a lookout into one of the countries, not there 10 minutes, and I heard gun-fire and explosions in the neighboring city. I am not going to try and pretend to be some expert (I mean I was there for 10 days) I'm just relaying what I saw, but it truly seems as though it really is an "Island of tranquility in a sea of madness."
